Apple’s iPad is a revolutionary breakthrough in terms of tablet computers. Its adequate screen size, ample internal storage, high-speed processor and availability of applications just make most consumers to crave more on this product. Not everyone knows that a lot of computer companies have also developed their own tablet computers, fueling the real competition. Every product has its own advantages and disadvantages. Screen size and response, processor power and internal storage capacity are just few of the many specifications that consumers need to look into.

Here are some of the 5 best iPad alternatives in the market today:

1. Asus Eee Pad Transformer
This unique tablet comes with a keyboard dock and boasts of a 10.1-inch capacitive display. With a 1280x800 resolution, viewing movies with this tablet is a breeze. This tablet is also powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual Core processor and also sports two cameras in the front and rear sides. With its keyboard attached, one would mistake it as a netbook.

2. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V
Samsung opted to have their new tablet built with a powerful 8MP camera plus a LED flash. Another camera at 2MP is also built in front for video calling purposes. Powered by the new Android 3.0 operating system, the Galaxy Tab 10.1V has a 1GHz dual core CPU and you can choose either the 16GB or 32GB storage variants. It also has the usual 10.1-inch capacitive screen and with a resolution of 1280x800. It is also much lighter compared to the iPad.

3. Motorola Xoom
Motorola also came out with their tablet, the Xoom. It has similar technical specifications with the Asus Eee Pad Transformer minus the keyboard dock and the card reader. Other features added are multiple sensors that are built in this tablet. With a Tegra 2 chip, Android 3.0 OS, 5MP and 2MP cameras put together, there’s no doubt the Motorola Xoom is going to be a stealer.

4. BlackBerry Playbook
With its own tablet operating system (QNX), Blackberry has penetrated the tablet market with its Playbook. It is designed to be a mobile tablet with a 7 inch capacitive screen and weighs at a mere 400g. The Playbook is still considered powerful with its own 1GHz Cortex A9 Dual Core processor and 1GB RAM. The downside though is its unavailability of applications that would have helped consumers tinker a lot with this tablet.

5. LG Optimus Pad
Though it has the same specs with most tablets in the market, the Optimus Pad sports an 8.9 in capacitive screen. It is still considered as one of the powerful tablets with its 1GHz Tegra 2 CPU, 32GB internal storage, 1GB of RAM and an Android 3.0 operating system. Though with all these components in one tablet, expect that the Optimus Pad would not come to your hands cheap.

There are hundreds of options to choose from aside from getting the iPad. Competition is very stiff that one needs to think whether to choose between the technical aspects of the tablet or just buying the company brand itself. Some may think money is not an issue at all but others do. Everything boils down to your budget and needs. The Android operating system is one major competitor for Apple, what with the thousands of developers constantly giving away free applications. There’s no doubt people would look for iPad alternatives. Price, technical specifications and portability will be the main factors in deciding to get one.
